Terrain Awareness
An FAA study found that a large percentage of general aviation fatalities they investigated were the result of controlled flight into terrain. In other words, pilots somehow miscalculated their aircraft's proximity to danger and there weren't sufficient visual cues to alert them.
Pictured at left is the same situation as on the preceding page. But we've simulated heavy cloud cover with visibility of one-half mile. What if a miscalculation had put your aircraft in this position? How much better would your decisions and responses be with the clear situational awareness provided by the Synthetic Vision of the Sierra EFIS?
(Of course, the fact that you would see this peak approaching when you were miles away would probably ensure you'd never get into such a close scrape).
